Union Gateway - The Battle of Saltley Gate

Banner celebrates the 50th anniversary of the labour movement victory of Saltley Gate, when 20,000 union workers walked out to support striking miners. They blockaded and closed down the coke depot, in Saltley, a massive show of solidarity that helped miners win the strike and a 30% pay rise!

With songs, stories and video, Banner links the historic struggle of the past to the struggles of today.

"The struggles of the past inspire the struggles of the future"

The second half of the Banner show is a foot stomping celebration of resistance to the global pandemic of capitalism!

Banner weaves together stories of resistance from Porters on strike in Brum, Black Lives Matter activists campaigning in Bristol, Freedom Fighters in Palestine to the massively successful farmers campaign in India, we celebrate struggle across the globe.

This special evening of trade union theatre is hosted by the Southampton Geographical (SE/6236) and UCSA (SE/100C8) branches of South East Unite the Union.
