About The Event
The Book of Genesis
The Book of Genesis focus on the "classic" Gabriel/Hackett period of Genesis from Trespass to Wind & Wuthering albums. They offer a fully costumed show featuring all the classic Gabriel era costumes which turns a show into a theatrical "event". This is supplemented with synchronised slides, video, and lighting.
They also play themed shows such as performing the whole of the "Genesis Live album" or the "Six of the Best" set list .They include the early era favourites and some variety for the rest of the show including one or two surprises.
Until recently, The Gift were regarded by some as ‘the best kept secret’ in progressive rock. Back in the early noughties their first album ‘Awake & Dreaming’ wowed those in the know with its heady mixture of ‘70s style and contemporary soundscape. Then there was silence...until the band reformed and released 2014’s “Land of Shadows”, an ambitious song suite packed with strong melodies and instrumental ‘tours de force’.
In 2016 The Gift released their 3rd album, ‘Why The Sea Is Salt’, which Prog magazine described as a ‘masterpiece of the genre’. Their keyboard player Gabriele Baldocci is a world-renowned classical pianist who is easily the match for a Wakeman or Emerson. Add to this the tough yet tasteful guitar of Leroy James and the talented rhythm section of Chris Taylor (drums) with Stef Dickers (bass) and you have a cinematic sound which also rocks hard. In June 2019 The Gift released their 4th album ‘Antenna’, which was even harder hitting than before whilst still retaining their signature sound. This year they plan to release ‘Seven Seasons’, their 5th… a concept album about the stages of a life.
Onstage, The Gift deliver a committed and fiery performance. Frontman Mike Morton delivers their musical stories with passion and panache. They are one of the most arresting live acts on the UK scene right now. Steve Hackett and Antony Phillips are supporters of the band, having both contributed to past albums. They each testify to the band’s live power. Just don’t expect rock cliché. As Mike says: ``Don't come to us for songs about cars and girls.”
The music scene is poised to return with a vengeance this year, and The Gift are back in the saddle, ready to raise the roof at venues everywhere.
