About The Event
For the past ten years, The Cold Stares have toured the world relentlessly as a duo, blowing away audiences across the US and Europe with a fierce, blistering live show that belied their bare bones, guitar-and-drums setup. Now, the band is mbracing a whole new kind of chemistry as they launch their next chapter, adding a third member and channeling the classic power trio
sound they grew up on with their explosive new album, “Voices”.
“The chains were off when we made this record,” says guitarist/singer Chris Tapp. “Suddenly, all the parameters that had dictated what we could and couldn’t do just disappeared and we were free to create whatever sound we wanted.”
That sense of total artistic liberation lies at the heart of “Voices”, which pushes The Cold Stares’ signature mix of blues, southern, and hard rock to bold new heights.
Recorded almost entirely over the course of just two days with producer/engineer/mixer Mark Needham (Taj Mahal, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon, Fleetwood Mac), the album stands as the band’s most mature, eclectic collection yet, balancing gritty muscle and tender emotion in equal measure. It would have been easy for Tapp and drummer Brian Mullins to simply crank the volume here, but instead they make the most of bassist Bryce Klueh’s arrival by getting more
nuanced and adventurous in their approach, chasing a raw, unvarnished sound that manages to feel both vintage and modern all at once. Add it all up and you’ve got a gutsy, cinematic record that’s as honest as it is exhilarating, a high-octane dose of unadulterated rock and roll that tips its cap to everything from Cream to Led Zeppelin as it reckons with love and
loss, sin and redemption, hope and regret.
Support from The Outlaw Orchestra:
Three accomplished musicians from the south coast of the UK exuding the Saturday night hell raising escapism of the weekend. Dubbed ‘Heavy Grass’ by one DJ due to the combination of Hard Rock meets Country twang but maybe most accurate would be as suggested by another radio station: The Outlaw Orchestra ~ The love child of Motorhead and Johnny Cash!
The Outlaws are at home at a bike festival, an arts centre, a steamy rock bar or a country stage and can adjust the volume accordingly. Slide guitar, Pedal Steel guitar, Banjo, gravel vocals and solid thumping drums delivering original catchy hard rocking songs about everyday life laced with deep south spirits and delivered with a British rock n Roll sense of humour.
They drew the biggest crowd ever at Ramblin Man’s Rising stage. They pulled the largest outdoor crowd at Custom Rock n Blues Bike festival since Motorhead. Invited countless times to grace the Sheffield 02 stage, Sheffield Bowl and Planet Rock stages. They have toured/supported Skid Row, The Dead Daisies, The Darkness, Brothers Osbourne, Phil Campbell, Reef, Diamond Head, Pete Way, King King, Kris Barras, Brave Revival, Kira Mac and so many more.
The constant on the road hard work has paid off with weekly air time of Planet Rock Radio, BBC Introducing, countless online radio stations and hitting the pages of Hard Rock Hell mag, Metal Planet, Emerging Rock bands and Powerplay Magazine.
The records demonstrate musical ability and clever song writing but it’s live that they thrive putting on a show wherever they play, pulling the audience in and ensuring a wild night for everyone, no better demonstrated by pulling the largest queue to a merchandise stand ever at Planet Rocks Winters End festival selling out all merchandise within an hour.
The Outlaw Orchestra will leave you with a sore foot from stamping, a sore face from grinning and some devilish Outlaw in your blood!
